Brief
For Rocket Espresso, we designed the new Bicocca coffee machine with the philosophy of “aesthetics follows function”: for us, aesthetics should always guide the user in using the product. Similarly, when we were also asked to design the Bicocca’s digital interface, we aimed to design screens that would guide users in the spontaneous execution of various functions. The additional challenge we faced was to eliminate text by devising a set of icons that could be understood by anyone in the world.
Solution
From the silhouette of the side of the espresso machine we started to generate the main graphic elements of the digital homepage, recreating a clear link between tangible and intangible product. The icons and various components also have angular profiles, consistent with Bicocca’s geometry and in line with Rocket’s brand identity and mood. All major functions have been organized in the home, the main screen, to ensure immediate and intuitive user access.
